The neighbourhood is peaceful, quiet, populated by traditional, friendly Croatian villagers – the perfect hideout from highly touristic areas.
Dugi Otok is one of Croatia’s best-kept secrets – a place of true peace and tranquility. It is known to be an island where you can really let go, embrace nature, and experience relaxation for your body and soul. Its name translates to ‘Long Island.’ It is not, however, the longest island in Croatia. It is 45 km long and is the seventh-larges island in Croatia Dugi Otok is a part of the Zadar archipelago on the Dalmatian coast. There are many, twelve to be exact, small villages on the island, each with their own charms and peaceful ambiance. Plus the laid back capital Sali.
The island has so much to offer that you´ll never get bored. There are so many different activities such as various excursions on the island and boat excursions to the nearby islands, fishing, hiking, mountaineering, trekking, kayaking, swimming, diving, biking or walking. Not to forget just to hang loose on one of the various beaches.

Islands Attractions

Dugi Otok has many fun attractions for individuals, couples and families to enjoy. Here is a selection of what the island has to offer:

Nature park Telascica

The best thing to do in this natural park is to walk through its wild nature or visit its famous cliffs. Enjoy swimming in its extremely clean waters or visiting the park´s salt lake. In case you get tired, take a rest and have a drink in some of the park´s bars and restaurants. It is approximately 20 km from the house. Brbisnjica Bay

Just 3.8 km from the house. You can even go by foot just don’t forget to take some water. If you are going by car I suggest to go early in the morning as you have very limited parking space. There are many things to do there: You can enjoy the nice beach and swim in the deep blue sea or rent a kayak and look into Golubinka Cave. Don´t miss out on swimming in the natural pool called Dragon Eye.

Sakarun Bay

Distance from the house is 15.4 km. The 300m long beach Sakarun is really looking good especially with two bars and one pizzeria to refresh yourself. Already at the first glance at the bay, the beauty becomes clear to you – light blue sky, breath-taking turquoise sea water and an almost white sand-pebble mixture spread a unique Caribbean flair, as is otherwise hardly to be found in Croatia. It is the perfect sandy beach.

Veli Zal Beach

The Veli Žal Beach is a beautiful beach located 8.4 km from the house. Right in front of it is Mežanj, the only islet on this side of Dugi Otok. The beach can be reached by car or by boat. The road is asphalted and well marked, parking is available. Beach Veli Žal is a pebble beach with somewhat sandy parts, and as you walk away towards its edge it becomes rocky.
Ideal for romantics seeking to escape from reality, with pure sea and beautiful nature. But it is also suitable for a family vacations due to easy entrances into the sea and the fine, gravel. This beautiful beach offers something for everyone. Adventurers will find interesting places to explore the underwater world, and nature lovers will enjoy the untouched surroundings and clean sea. While staying at the beach of Veli Žal, do not miss the beautiful sunset because the view from the beach is really spectacular.

Veli Rat Lighthouse

Is the biggest lighthouse in Croatia, built in 1849. A very nice spot for a walk and to enjoy the view. You have pristine clean sea water for swimming too. Plus the camp site next by offers a very nice cocktail bar.
